Verify your identity

Protecting authors, publishers, and readers is a top priority for Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). To better protect those who publish with us and buy books on Amazon, we may ask you to verify your identity. This is to ensure an account is genuine when using our services.

If requested, identity verification requires you to submit a government-issued ID, such as a passport or driver’s license.

How to verify your identity

To verify your identity, we encourage you to use a mobile device, as it’s easier to upload a photo from your phone or tablet. To get started, follow these steps:
  1. Log into KDP. Under Your account, go to Your identity.
  2. Enter or review your information (e.g. full name, address, date of birth). The name on your account should match your ID.
  3. Save your information if you made changes.
  4. Click Verify identity.
  5. Select an ID type and the country that issued the ID.
  6. Upload the required photos of your ID.
  7. Submit for verification.

Verification will only take a few minutes, and we’ll notify you once it’s complete. If your legal name has changed recently, and your ID hasn’t been updated, read these instructions.
Note: If you are asked to verify your identity, access to KDP’s publishing features will be restricted until you complete the process.

Is my information safe if I verify my identity?

We design all of our systems with your privacy in mind. We’ve invested heavily in ensuring the security of your personal information across both KDP and Amazon. All information you provide is handled in accordance with our Privacy Notice.

What happens if I don't complete or fail identity verification?

If requested, identity verification is required to use KDP. If you fail to complete the process within the time allotted, or do not successfully verify your identity, we may take action on your account, such as closing your account.
If you receive an error during the verification process, you can troubleshoot solutions using our Help article.

Which IDs do you accept?

Depending on the country, we accept most government-issued IDs, such as passports, residency permits, or driver’s licenses. See this Help article to search accepted IDs by location.
